Work Ethic

The cornerstone of a moral life might be said to be hard work. To participate in the world a person must work at it. The diligence of people to push through all the problems and obstacles in their path is a moralizing experience. When someone asks about another person—and they are told he works very hard—it says something about his character. It says they can be focused and responsible in ways that are difficult to fake. Hard work in effect is part and parcel of a genuine life.

When someone avoids work and instead thinks of cleaver ways around doing it brings their character into question. So, in a business setting if the proprietor is all talk and little action it brings the ethicacy of their actions into question. Businessmen who are incompetent or devious focus on offering the client of a product or service rather than the substance of a product or service. These are the quick buck artists.

The biggest problem with small business ethics, is teaching businessmen that they are engaging in unethical behaviors when they follow some business customs of the past. Simply working hard, embracing family values, and going to church does not mean a person will act ethically in their business.
