Farming/Hunting/Fishing

Farming: Farming means growing a business, becoming part of the community and being socially responsible. The focus here is on long-term gains rather than short-term gains.

Hunting: A business that is in it for the fast-buck and short-term gains. What a person means when they say they have made a killing in business they literally done so. They have tracked down potential the victims of their business schemes using lies and deceptions to exploit them. Owner's of this type of business tend to treat business as a sport gaining not only financial satisfaction from deceiving someone but also emotional and egotistical satisfaction as well.

Hybrid Farming/Hunting: Here the hunter selectively fleeces his client when he is absolutely sure no other person will notice. This is the hardest form of cheating to uncover. (see ethical cloaking). For, example, a contractor might take advantage of an elderly person. Since they are mentally infirm their friends and family are more likely to believe the business person than the elderly person when it comes to a dispute over the bill. There is no way to track down this sort of cheating in the short-term but over a period of many years anecdotal evidence tends to reveal the exploitation.

The motive for hunting prey in the marketplace can derive from greed or it can be caused by some emotional problem of the business person whereby tormenting and exploiting people gives them great satisfaction. The latter is more rare than the former but it does occur in the course of business over many years. These few people treat their business as their own personal sandbox.

Fishing. There are several variants on fishing. In a more benign sense it is part and parcel to running a small business wherein the proprietor enjoys luring customers into buying his or her products and services. There is a more sinister type of fishing wherein the merchant lures customers in and maximally extracts money and emotion from them. Many such people have already made it in business and do not really need to struggle to make a living. Fishing in this sense is an aristocratic pursuit where the fisherman takes considerable delight in landing a big fish. But the businessman's pleasure is someone else's pain and therefore this type of behavior would be considered unethical.
