Unscrupulous business people sometimes distance themselves from the people they intend to take advantage of. In this respect they avoid any intimate contact with the customer as social intimacy interferes with their ability to "objectify" the customer as a thing to be exploited.

Savvy business people are keenly aware of clients and business people who distance themselves as a sign of potential trouble. Sometimes it difficult to tell the difference between a shy and socially inept person from a cunning operator who distances themselves from the obligations of social convention so they can exploit people.
